LISA DATELLE QUARTERMAN, CYPRESS CARE CO-FOUNDER, NAMED IN BUSINESS INSURANCE'S “2007 WOMEN TO WATCH
ATLANTA – August, 02 2007 – Lisa Datelle Quarterman, founder and executive vice president of Cypress Care Inc., has been listed among the “2007 Women to Watch” by Business Insurance, a leading publication covering the nation’s insurance industry.
Business Insurance’s “Women to Watch” identified 50 women who are doing outstanding work in commercial insurance, risk management, employee benefits and related fields. The list, announced July 30, was compiled from hundreds of reader nominations and the publication’s senior staff.
Fortune Magazine also featured Cypress Care and Quarterman in its June 25, 2007 issue on the topic “Working for your Kids.”
Quarterman, 37, helped build Cypress Care, formed in 2001 in Atlanta, into one of the nation’s leading pharmacy benefits management companies focused on the workers’ compensation industry. Today, the company provides health care benefits management services to multiple industries including workers’ compensation, Medicare Set Aside and auto markets.
According to Business Insurance, “Women to Watch” is a starting point, not an endpoint, for discussing the importance of women in the industry. “Even though more women are taking on high-profile jobs, senior management in the insurance business remains largely male,” said Business Insurance editor Regis Coccia. The publication “believes that diversity—whether through gender, race or ethnicity—is important for an industry that serves people and businesses in all walks of life.”
Having spent years in the workers' compensation industry, Quarterman saw room for improvement among pharmacy benefit managers. She left her job at One Call Comprehensive Care, a pharmacy benefit management and home health services provider, to form Cypress Care with father Hank Datelle, experienced with start up companies, and brother Marc Datelle, a marketing and technology expert.
Recognizing that industry inefficiencies could be corrected with technology, the Datelles introduced software allowing companies to tailor their workers’ compensation programs to fit the needs of employees.
Quarterman’s vision won her a nomination in the 2004 edition of “Who’s Who in Corporate America,” the 2005 Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute’s Rx Benefit Innovation Award and a finalist nomination for the 2006 Stevie Awards for Women in Business.
"When I first contemplated starting my own business, I was handed a notepad and pen and was challenged to list 10 things that I could do differently to improve the market space I wanted to enter. That list eventually became a list of industry firsts and resulted in the innovative technology and information services that put Cypress Care on the map."
